Elastollan® TPU enables long-term durability in cables for industrial manufacturing, offering >15 million flex cycles, excellent mechanical properties, heat distortion and compression set properties, and resistance to oils and weld spatter.

Cables for industrial robots need to be flexible, abrasion resistant and resistant to dynamic fatigue. Jacketed with Elastollan® TPU, cables for industrial robots can achieve a long service life. This is attributable to the excellent mechanical properties of Elastollan®, which includes:

Abrasion Resistance

Elastollan® TPU is considered one of the most abrasion resistant elastomeric materials due to its block copolymer structure that includes flexible segments.

Tensile Strength

Where conventional materials reach their limits, Elastollan® TPU stretches on, and on…What makes Elastollan® TPU special is that it has elastic properties that enable the polymer to be stretched to many times its original length and bounce back without permanent distortion.

Torsion Modulus

Elastollan® TPU remains flexible even at low temperatures because it is a thermoplastic elastomer. As such, it is a polymer that exhibts both thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. Its can re-soften by heat, harden when cooled and can stretch and return to shape.

Creep Behavior

As an elastomeric compound Elastollan® has excellent resistance to deformation, even under long-term static stress it maintains visco-elastic behavior. This resistance to deformation results in excellent coil-retention and is why Elastollan® TPU is the material of choice for coiled cable products.

Hydrolysis Resistance

Standard polyether Elastollan® TPU has a very good hydrolytic resistance. Even after 20000 h permanent product samples have maintained 300% elongation at break.

Microbial Resistance

Under high heat and high humidity conditions, parts made with conventional plastics can be damaged by microbiological attack, which is usually first seen as a discoloration. Parts made with polyether-based Elastollan® are resistant to microbial attack.
